Description
Photoshop 7.0 and mouse. Some paths and vector shapes have been utilised.Original construct file dimensions: 7466 x 4200
A photographic reference was relied upon for such things as form and facial features. Does this diminish the professionalism and originality of the work?
Highly critical comments are most welcome.

anyway just one thing i would have to say crit-wise. the left cheek is too broad - the line of her face needs to be closer to the rest of her facial features. ethier that or the chin is too low. i can't quite figure out what the problem is - but its definatly around there somewhere.
hope that was what you wanted to hear??!!!!!

I appreciate everyone's comments on my work, and wish there was more time to adjust and experiment. Perhaps later.
And yes, I do like Novenarik's work, among many other artists of various styles.

I really love the 'free' attitude of this piece. And her hair.

I like "KOS-MOS" and "Frumpy Puppy."
As requested, here is the link to the Simplicity photo ref. I hope this helps, and await further comments from you.

Anyway, I think the piece is still very professional looking, and could be mistaken for a real advertisement. I like how you've simplified the highlights and shadows of the pants, as well as the shape and shades of the hair.
Her hand does look a little empty now that I know she's supposed to be holding something. If you are ever going to work on this piece again, you might consider changing that pose, or putting something else in her hand. Or perhaps add headphones so she looks like she's dancing. Another thing would be to change her shirt a little so that it doesn't look so much like the original. That's also something to keep in mind in the future when you use photorefs.
Again, very nice vector work. I look forward to seeing more.

Next time I will add variations and change the pose so it doesn't resemble the original. I initially used a photo reference because I found it difficult to achieve a realistic body form and maintain illustration techniques at the same time. If I hadn't used a photo reference I would simply be creating another comic-style work, which is not what I wanted to do. So I sketched my idea and then set about looking for the photograph.
Once again, thanks for your help, Marianne. I will take your suggestions into account next time. And by the way, I really like "Model" and "Shoes" as found on your Web site. Very well done.
